Artistic Statement

As a choreographer, I strive to create movement that is healthy, effective, and enjoyable. Too often, dance pushes the body past its limits, creating lasting damage and unnecessarily shortens a performer’s career. Creating movement informed by kinesiology and somatic practice has allowed me to expand a lifetime of expression through dance. With my choreography, I highlight the importance of a strong and healthy foundation that can be done safely without injury, providing dancers in my work agency to partake in the creative process alongside me.

With a strong emphasis on musicality and rhythms, I strive to choreograph to each complexity in the music. This can be seen most in my works of tap, viewing such dance as a conversation rather than performance. It being an inherently percussive genre spotlights the reflection of rhythm. However, I also appreciate exploring the juxtaposition between movement and music. It is at the crossroads of these two disciplines that one is provided a new perspective on the concept of sound.

Every piece I create leaves the audience feeling impacted and inspired. My goal is for both the dancers and those who are viewing to connect with one another, whether it be through the music they hear or the movement that is produced. Dance can be seen as a conversation instead of a performance. All of the different elements that make up a piece guide both performers and audience members through a reflection of the human condition. It is these mutual experiences reflected on stage that bring the audience and performers as one.
